Signs Your Septic Baffle is Not Functioning Properly

A septic tank baffle is a key component of the septic system and helps to keep sewage and other waste from entering the home. If a septic baffle is damaged or not functioning properly, it can cause serious problems for your septic system and your home. There are a few signs that your septic baffle may be damaged or not working properly. First, you may notice that your septic system is not draining properly. This can lead to sewage backup in your home or yard, and it can also cause odors. Additionally, you may see pooling water in your yard or notice that your septic tank is full more often than it should be. If you see any of these signs, it's important to call a septic professional to have your septic system inspected.

Septic Tank Baffles Explained

A septic tank has an inlet baffle and outlet baffle, and both must be installed for the septic system to properly function

  • The septic tank inlet baffle is located at the inlet end of the septic tank, where sewage enters the septic tank from the home. The septic tank inlet baffle helps to keep solids in the septic tank and prevents them from entering the leach field.
  • The septic tank outlet baffle is located at the outlet end of the septic tank, where effluent leaves the septic tank and enters the leach field. The septic tank outlet baffle helps to keep solids in the septic tank and prevents them from entering the leach field.
